Description

In this episode, we build a detailed railyard complete with graffiti-covered freight cars using Tim the Terrible's awesome new North American Rail network pack. The railyard is located in-between the I-5 freeway and an arterial lined with new luxury high-rises built right next to an expansive (and expensive) suburb. We also begin working on the road layout for the neighborhood across the highway. Finally, we build a construction site where workers are laying down new asphalt on the highway. This construction site slows down Southbound traffic significantly, as you'll learn...

If you're new, Columbia City is an ongoing Cities: Skylines series where I am building my own metropolis set in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. In this series, I try to adhere to very strict standards of realism while still ensuring that the city expands into a large metropolitan region. With this focus on realism, I try to balance the antiquated car-centric postwar urban planning strategies which were unfortunately used by many American cities with newer, more forward-thinking strategies which focus on transit-oriented development, high density neighborhoods, walkability, and public transit access. I hope you follow along as we expand Columbia City and take inspiration from amazing cities like Seattle, Vancouver, and Portland!
