Now I know that the holidays are upon us, the theme is Christmas and everything is all about warmth and family - but our region of Coniferia is severely lacking in poverty struck areas and grime. We’ve got some public housing estates here and there, but no real distinct low-income, crime-ridden neighborhoods.
Well, that’s all about to change because in this episode we’re building Chester Park, a rundown area composed of a mixture of dilapidated old industry and 1970s public housing towers.

Chester Park was originally an exclusively industrial area but the city of Pine Harbour bought up the lots adjacent to the highway during the early 1970s to build public housing in a bid to solve the desperate housing crisis.

An interesting thing with Chester Park is that the decline was quite rapid: this place was basically built as a ghetto or at least the aforementioned circumstances were enough to ensure that no resourceful people would actually move in - they’d rather be crushed by mortgage debt. And in a way, the failure of Chester Park was to shape much of the politics of the City of Pine Harbour moving forward. Opponents used it as a case to push for more single-family zoning, allowing developers to rapidly expand the footprint of the city in what is today dubbed suburban sprawl.
This reluctance to allow for higher-density zoning in Pine Harbour continues to inflate the pricing of housing here.

If you were to take a big-picture look: Chester Park has all the traits of a rough area - it’s placed in an undesirable location, it’s marked by traffic noise and industrial pollution, and the architecture and planning employed ensure that it's particularly easy for drug dealers to set up systems that help them avoid police interference. There aren’t any easy access roads to the blocks facing the highway, and as such, it acts as sort of a fortress for the gangs that operate in the area.

- What's the rationale behind this project:
What happens if a washed-up-used-to-be-YouTuber gathers a bunch of "generic" looking assets (though mostly inspired by Australian / Canadian cityscapes) with the hopes of creating a Cities: Skylines region full of towns and cities that both look realistic and are inspired by Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA, while at the same time don't really replicate any one particular style? No idea, let's find out.

Join me in this Cities: Skylines modded gameplay / let's play / timelapse series as we expand the region, and build new infrastructure, highways, public transit, industrial pockets, NIMBY-neighbourhoods, sprawling suburbs and bustling downtowns. And of course, use tress excessively to cover up any imperfections!
