Half-Life 2 Anniversary - 20 Years Old, But Is It Still Worth Playing?

Is Half-Life 2 worth playing in 2024? We've just passed the Half-Life 2 Anniversary and while it's absolutely geriatric by game standards, does Valve's beloved PC game still hold up in 2024? It absolutely set a new standard for action adventure games back in the day, with its incredible technical innovations, mind-bending physics puzzles, and a high quality cinematic presentation with character animation that is still some of the best in its class. With long-tail support from Valve, an enthusiastic Half-Life 2 mods community, an acclaimed flat to VR conversion, and the Half Life 2 RTX fan project imminently on the way, it's fair to say that Half-Life 2 is still a very relevant game. Now is as good a time as any to relive this genuine modern classic.

Half-Life 2 Anniversary is a new update that bundles Half-Life 2 with Episodes 1 & 2, Lost Coast, and a number of other extras including a brand new Half-Life 2 developer's commentary. It has been released for the Half-Life 2 20th anniversary alongside a new documentary by the people behind NoClip, revealing previously untold stories about its difficult development, and its abandoned sequel, Half-Life 3. Valve are PC gaming's most influential development studio, as the brains behind not just the Half-Life saga, but Portal, Team Fortress, Left4Dead, and the platform's most dominant storefront: Steam.
