Avowed is NOTHING Like Skyrim, and That's a Good Thing - Hands on preview, new gameplay

Avowed is Obsidian's take on the first person fantasy RPG, a genre more or less dominated by The Elder Scrolls (and Skyrim in particular) at this point. It also serves as a sword & shield counterpart to The Outer Worlds, their sci-fi Fallout-alike. But is it distinct enough to bring a new audience into the Pillars of Eternity universe? And how much like Elder Scrolls is it really?

This Avowed gameplay is an Xbox Series X/S exclusive RPG from Obsidian, the Microsoft first-party studio behind Alpha Protocol, Fallout: New Vegas, Pentiment, Grounded, and The Outer Worlds. It is also the creator of Pillars of Eternity, the series in which Avowed is the third entry. But it's very different from those games which were isometric RPGs in the style of the original Baldur's Gate. Avowed has an emphasis on combat and action and is expected to be one of the key RPGs of 2025.
