Assassin's Creed is Much Better Than You Remember
Description
Assassin's Creed is actually much better than you remember. The first entry of the Assassin’s Creed games is generally considered to be a ropey game with much better sequels, but what’s remarkable about playing it today is that it shows just how fully-formed the AC series was at the beginning: most if not all the elements associated with later AC games are represented here in some way. It sings on modern hardware too, running at a cool 4K60 on Xbox Series X, and so with Assassin’s Creed Shadows delayed until Q1 2025 at the earliest, it may be time to revisit the ambitious first entry in this modern classic saga.
Though the Assassin’s Creed Shadows delay has disappointed fans, it’s probably for the best. This is a crucial release for a struggling Ubisoft, and the whole franchise’s future hangs in the balance. It’s understandable that the studio desperately wants to get things right, and so delaying AC Shadows for extra polish is the right thing to do. Assassin’s Creed is an important series after all. Nobody wants to make the game that kills it off.
The original Assassin’s Creed might not be considered a masterpiece, but it’s one of the most ambitious games of the Xbox 360/PS3 era and it introduced many open world tropes that have become ubiquitous, inspiring countless games that came after it such as Sony Playstation exclusives Horizon: Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
